Hogs Back Hog IPA
On my journey across Surrey breweries starting with most famous.

Very strong tasting beer and slightly heavy also very hoppy.  I normally like hoppy beers not 100% sure I like this. Would be very good with a main meal not on its own not great.

IPA RESERVE - GREENE KING

This was a nice change from the golden and pale beers I have been exploring. A beautiful nutty brown colour, and a solid fruity punch of flavour. Definitely one of your Five A Day!  Brewed at Westgate Brewery in Bury St Edmunds since 1799, and long may they do so!
 5.4% volume , a quality ale.

Mordue Radgie Gadgie
Mordue brewery in tyne and weir brew quite a few beers.I have no idea where I picked this up from.Very dry finish.Radgie Gadgie, how very tyneside.Called strong bitter, not bad but if you dont like dry finish then probably not for you. They have it labelled as sweet.Something very wrong with my taste buds obviously.

SHARPS Sea Fury
Sharps sea fury still brewed at Rock in Cornwall, but sharps in name only as they are owned by molson-coors.Although often thought takeovers by giant brewers a bad thing ,this beer and Worthington white shield buck the trend as they are both good beers.5 per cent and well flavored in the slightly berry genre.

PROPER JOB - CORNISH IPA - ST AUSTELL BREWERY

Great name and a cracking beer!  Lots going for it. Very smooth and easy to drink, though not lacking in taste or flavour. Perfect blend of hops with a subtle citrus undercurrent. 5.5% Volume so a decent strength, creeps up on you!   Loved it from start to finish. A Proper Job Indeedy!  (Made with Cornish spring water so its healthy too!)

Shepherd Neame India Pale Ale
Another from faversham.I am sure Ian would like this more than I do.It has a decent bitter finish but despite being 6.1 alc per volume feels a bit thin to me.Its just me,dont be put off.I can be a bit sniffy.

EPA - ENGLISH PALE ALE - MARSTONS BREWERY
Quite like this. Clean, crisp and refreshing, with a slight limey aftertwang! A good light summery beer. English Pale Ale brewed and bottled by Marstons, Burton upon Trent. Established 1834, must be doing something right to have been around that long!

Shepherd Neame 1698 Kentish strong ale

From the beer smelling town of faversham, this being a rare smell nowadays comes this kentish strong ale from Shepherd Neame. You could have just read the label and saved me the bother of typing this right..Shepherd Neame is britains oldest brewery so they tell me on the web site and again they have produced a good but middle of the road tasting beer. This one wont knock your socks off but has enough about it to be considered worth the trip.I think I found this one in Waitrose,so not a long trip.Would happily have another one.

Courage Directors
I am old enough to remember when courage actually was a brewery and directors was there high class bitter. Now produced by Wells and Youngs the recipe remains I think essentially the same. Its a good honest bitter without making you go out of your way to find it.Perfectly drinkable.

Warsteiner
Followed by the furthest beer yet German and dull as ditchwater in my opinion. All the characteristics of beery water.I have had good German largered beers this isn't it.

Andwell Pilsner
And now the first of my local brewers,Andwell are just outside Basingstoke in Hampshire and this is a lovely hoppy lager. For someone like me who doesn't drink a lot of lager (because most of what I have drunk is awful)this is a bit of a revelation.Congrats Andwell hoppy lager.Who knew! not me anyway.I went to the brewery shop which was well stocked with their bottles which is not always the case at smaller breweries as the bottling process is time consuming apparently.

Guiness West Indies Porter

Yep so these first two arn't your actual local brewer. At least not if you dont live in Dublin or Stowmarket but I love both and these were easy to test on the blog and on  drinkability .
Normal Guiness I find too bitter but this is smoother and a little lighter.Easy to drink .

Aspall imperial vintage Suffolk cyder
The favorite cyder.Difficult to find but worth it.Available on line from aspalls, beers of europe and easiest of all from Ocado with the rest of your shopping.By the way this blog does not get any money or goods from anybody mentioned. The cyder is strong in alcohol and taste.I may one day find a cyder I like more, that will be an unusual day.
